Contact lenses are clear, curved plastic pieces that are placed on the eye to correct vision problems. The lens is placed on the eye's tear film, which is in front of the cornea. Both near and farsighted vision problems can be corrected by wearing contact lenses. Many people prefer to wear contact lenses to avoid framed glasses. Properly placing the contact lenses on the eye is critical when wearing the lenses.
Step 1
Clean your hands well with soap and water. Wash your face if you are placing the contacts in the morning. Dry your hands thoroughly. Make sure you are fully awake. Allow your eyes to adjust to the light by waiting several minutes before putting lenses in.
Step 2
Apply a few drops of saline solution on your pointer finger. Pick up a contact lens with your other hand and place the lens in the center of the pointer finger, with the inner part of the lens facing upward. Inspect the lens to ensure it is clean and free of debris or loose particles. Add a drop or two of saline solution onto the center of the lens.
Step 3
Using your free hand's middle finger, pull the upper eyelid upward. Take the opposite hand's middle finger, and pull the bottom eyelid downward. With the eye exposed, gently place the contact lens over the iris.
Step 4
Blink once and open your eyes. If the contact begins to sting or feel uncomfortable, remove it immediately. Inspect the lens to see if any dust, loose eyelashes or other irritants are on the lens. Remove any irritants and try placement again.
