Whether you are experiencing hair loss or you long for thicker, fuller hair, you can rejuvenate your hair and encourage hair growth. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, hair loss is caused by genetic factors, chemical treatments or disorders of the immune system like alopecia areata. If you notice that your hair is falling out in clumps or you have an abnormal amount of hair in your brush, you should contact a dermatologist to rule out a medical disorder.
Step 1
Massage peppermint or rosemary essential oil into your scalp one to two times per day. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, this may help to stimulate hair growth. Apply just a few drops of your chosen essential oil to your fingertips. Massage your scalp when hair is dry using circular motions.
Step 2
Eat protein-rich foods. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, a protein deficiency can cause your hair to enter the telogen, or resting, phase of growth. Include foods high in protein in your daily diet, such as eggs, lean meats, nuts and dairy products.
Step 3
Ask your doctor to give you a test for food allergies. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, some food allergies, such as an allergy to wheat, dairy or food additives, can cause slow hair growth. You may need to eliminate or reduce the amount of these items in your diet.
Step 4
Brush your hair every morning and evening with a natural bristle brush. Brushing your hair promotes circulation to the scalp, causing an increased blood flow which stimulates your hair follicles, according to Lorin Shields-Michel in her book "Hair Care and Styling for Men."
Step 5
Take a daily multivitamin that contains the recommended daily allowance of vitamins A, C, E and B-complex. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, these vitamins are necessary for proper and healthy hair growth. If you have a deficiency in one or more of these nutrients, your hair may look thin, unhealthy or even start to fall out.
Step 6
Drink plenty of water every day. You should aim to drink at least two liters of water per day to help your body flush toxins and to promote healthy cell function. Drinking water helps to keep your hair hydrated and nourished. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, drinking water may also help to reduce some of the symptoms of hair disorders.
