Beaumont California Youth Activities

Keeping children healthy can be a difficult task. Between video games, cell phones and comfy couches, sometimes they just want to lie around engaging in these activities. However, introducing them to the enjoyment of getting involved in exercise is crucial. Let them select from a number of entertaining activities to hold their interest.

Sports

Let the children head to a local park after school for a pickup game of soccer or basketball with friends. Sports encourage both exercise and socialization. To join in an organized league, visit the Beaumont Youth Baseball Association. Its members play at one of the seven ball fields in the area, six of which are lit for night games. Alternatively, enroll them in tennis lessons at the tennis court, which is open to the public when classes are not scheduled.

Dance Classes

Dancing offers a way to exercise while also learning about the proper techniques for different types of dance. At the Noble Community Center, enroll in the Polynesian Dance class. The class is open to all ages, so go with your teen or let her join with friends. For those youths interested in a more western style, visit the Cherry Valley Grange for its twice-a-week line dancing classes.

Martial Arts

Training in the field of martial arts is physically healthy, but it also teaches youths how to defend themselves if they are ever in a dangerous situation. Shozen Martial Arts trains all levels of attendees, such as blue, purple, red, orange and black belts. For youths interested in a more calming activity that still falls into the category of exercise, visit Two Birds Flying for personalized instruction in tai chi.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons teach physical endurance and strength as well as have the potential to assist children in a life-threatening situation. Beaumont Plunge, the local pool, offers two-week-long swimming classes for children of all ages, as long as they are more than 4½ years old. For those who are either already skilled at swimming or not quite old enough for lessons, visit the pool during regular hours. A baby pool is available as well.

Paths

When youths venture out for a walk or a bike, make sure that they have the proper safety equipment and that they will not be walking alone, especially at night. For the adventurous children, tour the eight-mile path for bikers and walkers, which goes through downtown Beaumont. The 11.34-mile Beaumont Perimeter Walk combines a long-distance venture with some moderate climbs throughout. For a quick walk or job that's under a mile, head over to the circle at the Beaumont Soccer Park.
