Although fruits, vegetables and other nutritious foods offer vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy, consuming adequate amounts can still be difficult. Because some cooking methods alter the nutrient content of foods, you may not be getting as many vitamins and minerals as you'd expect. A multivitamin can be helpful in filling the gaps in your diet and is more convenient than preparing mounds of fruits and vegetables. In addition to vitamins and minerals, Progressive Health's multivitamins offer other ingredients to promote good health.

Vitamin A

According to Progressive Health's website, the company's men's and women's multivitamins both contain vitamin A. The women's multivitamin contains two forms, beta carotene and retinol acetate, while the men's multivitamin contains retinol acetate only. The Mayo Clinic explains that beta carotene exhibits antioxidant properties and may promote good vision. Men looking for beta carotene can find it in spinach, squash, fruits, grains and oils, explains the Mayo Clinic.

B Vitamins

Progressive's multivitamins for men and women contain a number of B vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12. Each vitamin has distinct effects, but the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health explain that B vitamins generally help your body create energy from the food you eat. Consuming inadequate levels of B vitamins may lead to diseases such as anemia, explain the organizations.

Green Tea Extract

One ingredient not often included in multivitamins but provided by Progressive is green tea extract. This ingredient is used in many diet products as it contains the stimulant caffeine. As the University of Maryland Medical Center notes, research indicates green tea extract may help burn fat by increasing your metabolic rate. In addition, the center explains that green tea extract may be helpful in managing blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha lipoic acid is an antioxidant that, like the B vitamins, aids in converting food into energy, explains the University of Maryland Medical Center. Alpha lipoic acid may also help regenerate other antioxidants, which ward off damage from free radicals--the waste products of metabolic activities. The center notes that alpha lipoic acid can reduce blood sugar levels and has been used in diabetes management.

Minerals

Progressive multivitamins also contain a number of minerals that help your body function normally. Minerals included in Progressive men's and women's multivitamins include biotin, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc.

Fruit Extracts and Powders

Fruit extracts and powders are included in Progressive multivitamins to offer vitamins and antioxidants. These vitamins contain blueberry powder, cranberry powder and red bean powder, as well as chaste berry extract and citrus extracts.
