"Hotlanta" may sizzle during the day, but things definitely heat up at night. Although Atlanta is known for its clubbing nightlife, that's not all there is to do on evenings in the city. Whether you want to dance the night away and pick up a new style of dance along the way, catch a baseball game or participate in a mystery theater presentation, there are many cultural ways to entertain yourself as night falls.
Chastain Park
When you want to catch some of the hottest concerts in Atlanta and enjoy views of the stars, it's a must to take in the experience at Chastain Park. Chastain is a place where people can go after work to kick back with friends and enjoy nice picnic dinners, glasses of wine and live entertainment.
The environment is so versatile that on one night groups of friends and co-workers can be seen gathering to watch Jay-Z hit the stage, while on other evenings couples head to the park for a night of jazz.
Guests sitting at tables who didn't have time to prep their picnic baskets won't have to watch their shows without food on hand, however. The park provides food, cocktails, wine and more from a concession stand as well.
Braves Game
Atlanta natives are as serious about their baseball as they are about their down-home Southern grub. If you're a sports aficionado or just want to see what all the hype is about, check out an Atlanta Braves game at nightfall. This is a great way to beat the heat that accompanies summer days in Atlanta and a fun alternative to spending an evening at a bar in the city.
If you're celebrating a special occasion or just want to live like a VIP for the night, consider reserving a private party suite, which includes at least 16 tickets along with a buffet and beverages.
Healthy Mexican Food and Salsa Dancing
If you love Mexican food but aren't in love with the nutritional content, head to Uncle Julio's restaurant and feast on healthy options such as the mesquite grilled salmon fillet; grilled vegetable platter; and the ensalada grande topped with a choice of grilled chicken, shrimp, salmon or portobello mushrooms.
After you've had a taste of Mexico in Atlanta, head to the Havana Club and dance the night away. If you're a pro at salsa, meringue and rumba dance moves, you can definitely practice them here. However, you're just beginning and would like to learn how to salsa dance, the club offers free lessons starting at 9 p.m. on Thursdays.
Fernbank Museum of Natural Art
Although the Fernbank Museum of Natural Art in Atlanta is known for its lifelike exhibits of dinosaurs, fossils and creatures from the past, many Atlanta newbies (and some natives) aren't aware that the museum features a rather classy affair as night falls. From January to November on Fridays, the museum kicks off its "Martinis and IMax" nights, where guests can enjoy cocktails (or non-alcoholic beverages), as well as films, a live DJ and dinner, according to its site.
This is a great way to mix and mingle with other Atlantans, and because the event is nestled under massive dinosaur skeletons, guests won't miss out on viewing the exhibits while they're there.
A Dose of Theater
When you're looking for something different to do in the evening, check out Atlanta's theater scene. Several Broadway productions come to Atlanta and generally hit the famous Fox Theater. But if you're looking for a different type of theater, Agatha's Mystery Theater makes for an entertaining night out as well, according to Atlanta.net.
The company has been around since 1988 and features a murder mystery dinner theater with a comedic twist and audience participation.
