According to the American Academy of Dermatology, our nails are essential, as they help us to protect and support the tissues around our fingernails and toes. Nail fungus is common among close to 12 percent of Americans. The two most common types of infection are called yeast and dermatophytes. There is a number of home remedies treatments available that can help to treat nail fungus. There is no scientific evidence to support any of these claims made.
Vicks VapoRub
According to the Mayo Clinic, Vicks VapoRub has been used as a treat for nail fungus, and there has been numerous reports saying that it works. However, no clinical trials have been conducted to asses the effectiveness of this product. The Mayo Clinic says that people turn to use VapoRub because it helps to remove the infection faster. If a person is suffering from nail fungus, all he needs to do is apply VapoRub to the affected area.
Vinegar
Again, there is no directive evidence to support the claim that vinegar helps to cure nail fungus, but the Mayo Clinic reports that some studies have shown that it can help to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria. It is recommended for an individual to soak her feet in a mixture of vinegar and water for about 15 to 20 minutes. Ensure that the feet are well rinsed and that they are patted dry. Continue to soak the feet daily and if skin becomes irritated, then consider adding more water to the mixture.
Burdock
This herb has been used for centuries to help treat ailments. It is also used as topical remedy for skin problems such as acne and eczema. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, burdock should be used with caution, because, as with all herbs, it can interact with other medications or supplements. It's important to discuss to option of taking herbs with a health care professional.
