Effective Way to Lose Weight Fast

Losing weight is a difficult task, but can be accomplished with diligence and effort. One of the fastest ways to lose weight is by partaking in a cleanse or fast. According to Donald Hensrud, M.D. and Mayo Clinic advisor, some diets have an initiation phase of very low calories to jump-start weight loss. Fasting is beneficial for the body because it diminishes most toxins in your system, according to Dr. Alan Goldhamer, author of "The Benefits of Fasting." You will notice quick weight loss when partaking in a fasting or cleanse, however, you must commit to following a healthy diet when the cleanse has ended. To lose weight and keep it off, begin with a body cleanse of only fruits and vegetables, followed with a healthy diet filled with grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

Step 1

Weigh yourself and log your weight so you can track your progress.

Step 2

Find a journal and write down the fruits and vegetables you will consume for the next four days. Use this same journal each day to write exactly what you ate and your morning weight.

Step 3

Purchase an array of fruits and vegetables to consume for four days. Your food list should include grapefruit, oranges, apples, mango, blueberries, grapes, melons, lettuce, arugula, spinach, kale, peppers, celery, carrots, cucumbers, squash and yams. Eat citrus fruits in the morning for extra energy, such as the grapefruits. Lunch should be a large salad with many greens and an oil and vinegar dressing. Dinner should be steamed vegetables with a baked yam. You may snack on fruits, vegetables, freshly squeezed juice and water throughout the day.

Weigh yourself when the four-day cleanse is completed.

Add more food groups to your diet of fruits and vegetables, such as soy, grains, nuts and seeds. Instead of steamed vegetables for dinner, you may eat whole wheat pasta with a hearty tomato sauce and snack on almonds, walnuts and sunflower seeds.

  • You will notice an effective weight change due to your cleanse and vegan diet. Vegetarianism is not only a healthy diet, but also leads to effective weight loss. According to Dr. Katherine Zeratsky health advisor for the Mayo Clinic, most vegetarians have a low body weight and are generally very healthy, as long as they make wise food choices when avoiding meat and dairy. Depending on your weight, you should eliminate 500 calories a day from your previous diet, and leave the remaining calories from the fruits and vegetables you will be eating in the cleanse.
  • Keep in mind that a cleanse is straining on the body. You may experience dizziness, fatigue and nausea among other symptoms. Please consult your physician prior to commencing a new diet and remember to stay hydrated throughout the day.
