Skydiving is a popular source of entertainment for adventurers that seek the rush of adrenaline and the unique view of life from the sky. Even in the Midwest, there are a number of places to skydive that offer licensed skydiving training and licensed jump options. Oklahoma alone has four facilities that provide skydiving classes in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas. Training at skydiving centers in Oklahoma requires a minimum of seven skydives at the accelerated course level, 15 skydives at the solo level, and 25 free-fall skydives to receive an A basic skydiver license. Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing should be worn when skydiving and all equipment will be provided at each facility.
Oklahoma Skydiving Center
Oklahoma Skydiving Center is located at the Cushing Regional Airport between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The facility has training classrooms, an indoor carpeted packing area, and on-site parachute rigging. Students who want to become licensed skydivers have three training options: accelerated free-fall, solo first skydive and tandem. Courses include a blend of exercises, lectures and videos. Pegasus Skydiving
Skydivers in Oklahoma City will find the closest location is Pegasus Air Sports Center. Located in Chickisaw, Pegasus claims it is the only U.S. Parachute Association, or USPA, sanctioned training center in the state. Pegasus offers three methods of training. The static line course is the traditional training method for first-time jumpers. There are also accelerated free-fall courses and instructor-assisted deployment, or tandem, courses.
Skydive Airtight
Touted as the most scenic skydiving center in Oklahoma, Skydive Airtight is located at the Skiatook Municipal Airport just north of Tulsa. Skydive Airtight provides parachute training for accelerated free-fall, solo and tandem jumps. Experienced jumpers with a USPA membership and a USPA "A" license are allowed to jump at a variety of heights, including 3,000, 5,000, 1,000 and 12,000 feet.
Skydive Tulsa
A skydiving center in the Tulsa area, Skydive Tulsa is located in Haskell between Tulsa and Muskogee. Experienced jumpers can participate in CRW, formation skydiving, freeflying and wingsuiting. In addition, new students are sign-up for the static line course, the accelerated free-fall course and the tandem jump. Skydive Tulsa also offers an observer ride. For a small fee, observers can ride in the airplane with the jumpers until the jump zone and then return in the plane to the airfield.
Equipment
Every place to skydive in Oklahoma utilizes equipment designed and manufactured specifically for the use of students. Such equipment includes an automatic activation device, a reserve static line, a square main canopy, a square reserve canopy and an altimeter. Radios are used from the ground to convey landing guidance to the jumper during flight.
