The Crowne Plaza in New York has a top location just north of Times Square. Activities abound in this area, including experiences that promote a fit and healthy lifestyle, like walking throughout the city to check out the many sights and sounds of Manhattan. The Crowne Plaza just completed a $85 million redesign of the hotel in 2010, and is an ideal choice if you want to be in the center of activities.
Here's to the People
Manhattan can be a place filled with stress and tension. Yoga is a top way to wind down from the high tension of living in a big city, and Yoga to the People, right off 6th Avenue and 38th Street, near the Crowne Plaza, is about as relaxed a place as it's going to get in the center of the city. As of summer 2010, they have a five-dollar class in vinyasa, a style of yoga where you transition from poses through an inhale or exhale flow. Other classes are available for a suggested donation of ten dollars, or whatever you can afford, unbeatable in Manhattan.
Dance Your Heart Out
Broadway is ideal for singing and dancing on stage, but instead of limiting yourself to just seeing the shows, take a dance class and get your groove on. Dancing is supreme for health and fitness, not to mention making for some pretty hot legs. The Broadway Dance Center is right by the Crowne Plaza and offers a plethora of classes for beginners through professionals, as well as for all ages. They have an excellent reputation amongst the dance community in New York.
Eat Healthy and Raw
What you put in your body is always the first step to health and wellness. Nutrition is key to staying fit, and many health experts consider sushi and sashimi, raw fish, to be a very healthy diet. Near the Crowne Plaza are a dozen top sushi restaurants, but one frequented by many locals is Sushi Yasuda. Try the omakase, a fixed-price selection of multiple dishes chosen by the chef.
Eat Vegan Ice Cream
Sticking to the idea that a good diet leads to health and wellness, try out a vegan diet. Dairy free and gluten free may sound unappetizing, but consider desserts that are both vegan and delicious. Lula's Sweet Apothecary in Alphabet City is renowned for all things sweet and vegan. They serve up peanut butter fudge that is famous, and a brownie sundae that is to die for.
Walk Around Town
One of the best activities for fitness is also one of the best things to do in New York City, walk. The Crowne Plaza is surrounded by scenic walking routes, every direction you choose. Walk north and see one of Manhattan's most famous parks, Central Park. Walk south and visit the multiple art galleries in Chelsea, Soho and Tribeca, because you can't say you've been to New York and miss out on the local art.
