Elliptical machines have become increasingly popular both at gyms and in homes. Because of the oval motion of the pedals, working out on an elliptical is not as strenuous on the joints as running. The movement of an elliptical machine doesn't involve any impact, such as your foot landing on a treadmill. Most elliptical machines incorporate arm levers for a total body workout. Many in-home elliptical models can fold up to save floor space when you are not using them.

Step 1

Locate the latch that attaches the pedal to the fly wheel. These are usually located under the pedal arm. Lift the latch to release it. Repeat on the other side.

Step 2

Position the pedal arms. Lift each pedal arm and pivot it upward until it touches the magnet on the upper part of the frame. The magnets will secure the pedal arms in place.

Step 3

Grab the handle on the back of the machine. Lift the frame. Continue lifting until the frame locks into place in a vertical position.

Tips and Warnings

  • Consult your instruction manual for your elliptical model.
