While no stables exist currently within the city of Minneapolis, some great options are available just outside the city limits. If you're looking for group or private instruction, all of these stables provide multiple levels of training for kids and adults. Some also lease horses and several offer horses for sale.
Woodbury, Minnesota
Just east of St. Paul, the Windy Ridge Ranch provides many services, including group classes in dressage, trail riding, horsemanship, jumping, games and more. Private lessons are available as well, and you can lease a horse from its stables. Lessons are for kids ages 9 and older and for adults at all levels.
Chisago City, Minnesota
Sunborn Stables is 45 minutes north of Minneapolis. In addition to providing lessons at all levels, Sunborn also has instructor training programs and offers clinics on riding and communicating with horses. Long-distance instruction is available through DVD analysis, and Sunborn instructors specialize in retraining badly trained horses.
Hugo, Minnesota
Driving 35 minutes northeast of Minneapolis, you can find Hardwood Creek Farm. The facility offers lessons, training, clinics, horse showing, horses for sale, a heated barn and indoor and outdoor arenas. A youth group program focusing on horsemanship is also provided.
Monticello, Minnesota
A little farther away, Caille Farm is 50 minutes northeast of Minneapolis in Monticello. Caille Farm offers dressage training and lessons of all kinds for kids ages 6 and older as well as for adults. It has a heated arena and horses for lease. All equipment needed for riding lessons is provided.
River Falls, Wisconsin
Just across the border in Wisconsin, Seventh Farm is a 35-minute drive from Minneapolis. Seventh Farm has indoor and outdoor arenas for teaching riders of all levels, including children and adults. Emphasis is placed on communication with the horses and proper care of the horses. Two instructors teach small classes of three to four students at a time.
