Camping is all about having fun as you reconnect with nature, and enjoying meals around a campfire is part of the enjoyment. Planning vegetarian meals for your camping trip is much simpler when you don't have to worry about packing, storing and cooking meat. Consider convenience, flavor, nutrition and cost when selecting vegetarian foods for your camping trip.

Ramen Noodles

Chop a few vegetables ahead of time and pack them in zip-close bags. Use firm vegetables such as carrots, zucchini or potatoes. Substitute a few packets of dehydrated vegetables if you're going on an extended camping trip. Boil a kettle of water over the fire. Cook the vegetables until they're tender, then add the Ramen noodles and seasoning packet.

Kabobs

Cut chunks of vegetables such as zucchini or peppers ahead of time. Place the vegetables on a skewer along with a few chunks of cubed tofu. Include pineapple or apple chunks for variety. Cook the kabobs over an open fire.

Foil Meals

Pack a roll of heavy-duty aluminum foil in your camping gear or cut the foil into 12-inch squares ahead of time. Set out an assembly line of foods such as tofu, vegetables, quinoa, squash or pre-cooked rice or beans. Place any combination of foods on a square of foil, then wrap the foil into a secure packet and place it on the fire. Remove the packet and open the foil carefully to avoid hot steam. Top the foil meal with a drizzle of olive oil, or with avocado slices, olives, veggie cheese substitute or chopped tomatoes.

Trail Mix

Include plenty of vegetarian trail mix for quick snacks. Make trail mix from a variety of ingredients such as dried fruits, nuts, carob chips, dry cereal, coconut, raisins, marshmallows or pretzels. Pack the trail mix in small zip-seal bags.

Banana Boats

Make banana boats over hot coals for dessert. Cut a slit lengthwise down the center of the banana. Poke a few pieces of chocolate bars or carob chips and miniature marshmallows in the slit. Wrap the banana in foil and place the wrapped banana on the hot coals. Check the banana often and remove it from the coals when the chocolate and marshmallows are melted.
