State of Texas RV Parks

The Texas State Parks and Wildlife Department operates a state park system with numerous parks supporting RV camping. The grand scale of Texas offers RV campers campsites in natural environments ranging from hill country to ocean and deserts to Big Thicket forests. The Texas State Parks Pass offers cost-effective annual access for frequent RV campers. The pass, good for 12 months from purchase date, is available for $60.

Texas Hill Country RV Camping

Bastrop State Park, near Austin, offers RV accommodations that include full water, sewer and electric hookups. Amid lush greenery, RV sites overlook a serene lake. Park facilities encompass an outdoor sports area, picnicking and backpacking on 12 miles of trails, a swimming pool, canoeing and fishing.

McKinney Falls State Park invites RV campers to hike its scenic landscapes and historical sites near Austin, Texas. Park facilities offer RV campsites and screened shelters with water and electricity. Campers walk and birdwatch along miles of hiking trails and multi-use trails. An interpretive center augments the interpretive hiking trail.

Gulf Breezes

Near the gulf coast of Texas, Lake Texana State Park rests in forests lining the banks of Lake Texana, midway between Houston and Corpus Christi. RV facilities provide water and electric hookups as well as picnic areas. Popular water sports include birding, swimming, boating and fishing along with sailing and canoeing. Hikers revel in rustic trails that meet ADA standards.

Mustang Island, named for the wild horses that roamed here long ago, welcomes RV campers to walk its beaches. South of Port Aransas, Mustang Island State Park accommodates camping, picnicking, swimming and surfing along its five miles of open beach. RV sites near park headquarters offer electricity and water.

Beachside and Bayside

For beach fun, travel to Galveston Island State Park for swimming, beach-walking and fishing. The beachside area at the state park provides campsites with water and electricity, tables, grills, restrooms and showers, and the bayside area offers picnic areas with restrooms as well as sites with water and electricity. Nearby area attractions include NASA's Johnson Space Center and the Sea Center Texas.

State Park Stargazing

Brazos Bend State Park, nestled along the Brazos River banks, encompasses 5,000 acres of wilderness for wildlife observation and birding. Don't be surprised to spot alligators or bald eagles here. The park offers access to six lakes and expansive green spaces house biking, hiking and equestrian activities. As dusk approaches, prepare for stargazing at George Observatory. Open Saturdays, this satellite of the Houston Museum of Natural Science makes telescopes available to guests interested in viewing the heavens.

Canyon Vistas

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, renowned for the majestic canyon views surrounding the park, rests in the Texas Panhandle. Facilities for campers include RV sites with full hookups, restrooms and showers. Activities include equestrian, hiking and mountain biking along with the annual Palo Duro Trail Run. Each summer, an outdoor musical drama of Texas history entertains campers.
