How to Take Prenatal Vitamins to Make Hair Grow Faster

According to "Foundations and Adult Health Nursing," prenatal vitamins have a variety of uses in addition to supporting the nutritional needs of an expectant mother. Prenatal vitamins contain high levels of vitamins, many of which support hair health. Though it is not advisable for all people to take prenatal vitamins to encourage hair to grow faster, it is a suitable option for some people, according to "Hair and Hair Care."

Step 1

Visit your doctor to discuss taking prenatal vitamins. Though it is safe for most people to take prenatal vitamins, a variety of medical conditions may contraindicate their use. Only take prenatal vitamins with your doctor's approval.

Step 2

Eat breakfast each morning so that you have food in your stomach when you take your prenatal vitamin. Prenatal vitamins should always be taken with food to prevent stomach upset, according to "Foundations and Adult Health Nursing."

Step 3

Swallow the prenatal vitamin with a large glass of water after eating breakfast. According to "Foundations and Adult Health Nursing," prenatal vitamins are best absorbed in the morning when the digestive tract is most active. A minimum of 8 oz. of water should be used when taking prenatal vitamins, which are often large pills, to ensure that the vitamin does not become lodged in your throat or esophagus.

Step 4

Reevaluate your hair's condition after taking prenatal vitamins for six weeks. According to "The Science of Hair Care," this is sufficient time for your hair to benefit from the extra vitamins and minerals you are consuming with the prenatal vitamins. Revisit your doctor if you are not satisfied with the results you have obtained to discuss other reasons that your hair may not be adequately growing.
