Boot camp training for fitness was derived from the idea that the same structured regimen that turns military hopefuls into images of perfect health will produce similar results for anyone. Individuals are pushed in a results-driven atmosphere to break through perceived boundaries in a way that increases confidence and self-esteem. Fitness boot camps are usually held outdoors, in a setting designed to assimilate military life as much as possible. Certified trainers instruct registered members in small to large groups, usually between 20 and 50 people. Resistance Exercises
Training with resistance means to stress the muscles, typically with the use of weights or resistance bands, in a way that strengthens their structural makeup. Boot camp trainees are put through a rigorous system designed to improve speed and timing. Some techniques are taken straight from the military, such as tire stepping, running sideways and obstacle courses. These exercises improve reflexes and coordination. Sprints are often included to increase speed and reaction time.
Plyometrics
Plyometric exercises develop a muscle's ability to react with explosive force. They work by the philosophy that muscles that are stretched just prior to usage contract more powerfully and quickly than muscles that aren't stretched. Plyometric movement is achieved by performing exercises like vertical jumps and long jumps, which require one to crouch into a loaded position before acting.
Variations
Different boot camps will focus on different aspects of health. Some place more attention on the mental and spiritual side of physiology, including activities like yoga and exercises that build motivation. Others are simply high-intensity calorie burns, that keep your heart rate raised from start to finish. Still, there are camps directed at developing strength and muscle.
