For many, the decision to lose weight comes abruptly, whether it's because of an impending event such as a trip to the beach or seeing an old friend who has managed to stay in the same shape she was in years before. Realizing that you need to lose weight can be a painful revelation that smacks you in the face, and for many it comes with the urge to begin losing weight quickly. While you won't reshape your body overnight, there are ways to lose weight ASAP.
Look in the Mirror
Step 1
Take stock of your current situation and figure out how you've gotten into a situation prompting the desire to lose weight quickly. Has it been a long time since you last exercised? Have you been making fast food and junk food a part of your daily routine?
You can't dig yourself out of a hole; you have to climb out. Figure out what you've done---or haven't been doing---and then work toward getting into the shape you now want to be in and stay in.
Step 2
Stop eating unhealthy food. Sure, this sounds simple, but you may not even realize how much your eating habits are affecting your weight. Cut out things full of fat---like fast foods and chocolate---and other items chock full of carbohydrates, such as pasta and pizza.
Cut out high-sodium items as well. The salt they contain causes you to retain water, which makes you appear bloated.
Step 3
Find healthy replacements. Foods high in complex carbohydrates but low in fat and calories, like oatmeal and peas, will keep your blood sugar low and make you feel full longer than the unhealthy options, meaning you'll have less of an urge to snack.
Cut down on your calorie intake. The only way to lose weight is to take in fewer calories than you're burning. White fish is a great alternative to red meat, as it is low in both calories and fat. Veggies are your friend, as are fruits, but avoid ones with high sugar content, like grapes.
Step 4
Run! Run! Run! If you need to lose weight quickly, you need to start burning calories quickly. The only way to do so is by exercising. If you were you trying to steadily lose weight over time, you could painstakingly redo your diet and work out incrementally. But if you need to lose weight ASAP, you should be doing some form of physical exercise for at least 45 minutes a day.
Work out in the morning and eat 4 to 6 small meals rather than three large ones. Both of these will keep your metabolism burning stronger than before, all day long.
