How to Put on False Nails

Acrylic nails, or fake nails, add additional nail length to hands. Nail polish on artificial nails lasts up to two weeks longer than polish on natural nails. False nails take just moments to apply, and the application can easily be performed at home. You can purchase nail sets at cosmetic and grocery stores. Nails can be removed using a nail soak.

Step 1

Clean nails and remove cuticles by using a cuticle remover. Slowly push cuticles back. Remove old nail polish. Trim nails short so they will not show underneath artificial nails. Lightly sand the entire nail using a nail file to add a small amount of grit to the nail.

Step 2

Add several drops of nail glue to the natural nail. Place the artificial nail into place. Ensure the bottom edge of the nail is tucked as closely into the nail bed as possible.

Step 3

File and trim the artificial nail to fit the proportion of your hand, as well as the style you desire.

Step 4

Mix the liquid and powder acrylic formulas that come with the nail kit together. Brush onto nails and allow to dry. Choose a final coat of nail polish and paint nails in the desired shade.
