ProForm treadmills are manufactured by ICON fitness, which also makes NordicTrack, FreeMotion and Weslo fitness equipment. If you want to keep your ProForm treadmill running smoothly, you will need to perform some preventative maintenance. Repairs that involve the motor or drive belt should be left to a professional treadmill service dealer. But smaller jobs such as cleaning, lubricating, adjusting and even replacing the walking belt, can all be done by you. Installing a new walking belt yourself will save you considerable cash, but it will cost you a little time.

Remove the Old Walking Belt

Step 1

Remove the safety key from the console and unplug the treadmill.

Step 2

Remove the motor hood. This is the plastic cover on the front of the treadmill. It is held in place by four to five screws.

Step 3

Loosen the walking belt. Locate the rear adjustment bolts at the back of the treadmill. These are usually located in the plastic end caps. Turn the bolts counterclockwise until the walking belt loosens. Keep track of the number of times you turn the bolts. Turn both bolts the same number.

Step 4

Remove the front roller adjustment bolt.

Step 5

Remove any bolts holding the deck in place. There are usually three or four screws attaching the deck assembly to the machine.

Step 6

Slide the rear roller out of the belt. Remove the rear roller adjustment bolts that you loosened in Step 3. Pull the roller out of the belt and set it aside.

Step 7

Lift the deck on one side and slide the belt off the deck assembly.

Install the New Belt

Step 1

Slide the new belt on the deck. Lower the assembly back onto the machine.

Step 2

Replace the rear roller. Insert the rear roller bolts but do not tighten them yet.

Step 3

Reinsert the bolts that secure the deck in place. Tighten these bolts completely.

Step 4

Tighten the adjustment bolts. Secure the front roller adjustment bolt. Tighten the rear roller adjustment bolts. Turn these bolts clockwise the same number of turns it took to loosen them.

Step 5

Start your treadmill. Allow the belt to run for a few minutes. Check that the belt runs smoothly and is centered.
