Skin wrinkles are bothersome since they are one of the most telltale signs of aging. At some point in everyone's life, wrinkles and fine lines begin to emerge. Certain lifestyle habits promote deeper wrinkles like smoking, environmental pollution and too much sun. However, there are plenty of sophisticated treatments-invasive and non-invasive-that help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Step 1

Choose a chemical peel to get rid of wrinkles. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, peels use chemical solutions to removed damaged top layers. Most often the solutions alpha hydroxy acids, phenols and trichloroacetic acids are applied to your skin and peeled away to reveal more youthful looking skin. You may need a series of chemical peels for deep wrinkles.

Step 2

Use non-invasive laser treatments to lose skin wrinkles. Since the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of lasers to combat wrinkles, it is one of the most popular treatments. A laser beam is scanned over wrinkled skin to remove outer layers and promote collagen production. Consult your dermatologist to find out if laser treatment is suitable for you. As with chemical peels, you may need several treatments for optimum results.

Step 3

Consider dermabrasion to remove the surface layer of skin. This is usually done by a dermatologist using a rotary instrument to sand the skin. This gets rid of the wrinkled top layers, allowing fresher, healthier skin to emerge. Dermabrasion is usually done only once and may cause redness and swelling for two to three weeks. Your dermatologist may give you antibiotics to prevent infection.

Step 4

Schedule and appointment with a plastic surgeon for the most dramatic wrinkle reduction. Face lifts are expensive and require recovery time, but they are one of the most effective methods to treat wrinkles. It works because small incisions are made around the hairline and skin is stretched out. This means less visible scarring and a tighter, wrinkle free appearance on your face and neck. Results usually last up to 10 years.
