How to Use a Paddle Ball

While paddle ball isn't an Olympic sport, it will assuredly test your concentration and dexterity. The game involves simply hitting the rubber ball attached to the paddle by a string as much as possible without stopping. Don't be misled; you'll need mental focus, quickness and hand eye coordination.

Step 1

Grasp the handle of the paddle with your dominant hand. Hold the paddle flat with the back of your hand facing the ground and your fingers facing upwards.

Step 2

Hold the ball in the middle of the paddle using your non-dominant hand.

Step 3

Lift the paddle quickly upwards in one quick movement, allowing the ball to jump up in the air.

Step 4

Bring your wrist upwards towards the ball as it is in the air, hitting it with the middle of the paddle each time; the more the ball bounces off the sides, the harder it is to control. Keep your eye on the ball each time you hit it, allowing the ball to bounce off the paddle and back into the air.

Step 5

Continue hitting the ball, finding a rhythm. Aim to hit the ball continuously for at least 100 hits.

Step 6

Repeat the process using your non-dominant hand.

Tips and Warnings

  • To increase or decrease the distance the ball can bounce from your paddle, shorten or lengthen the string by adjusting the knot on the back side of the paddle. For a challenge, play with two paddle balls at one time, hitting the ball in different directions such as forward and back as opposed to up and down or using the front, back, and the sides of the paddle. Set goals for the number of hits you want to achieve and strive for greater numbers each time.
