One of the most prominent and useful features you'll find on any treadmill is a set of preprogrammed workouts. NordicTrack treadmills are known for packing a number of features, and the manufacturer places a heavy emphasis on offering diverse workout options. Some NordicTrack machines have more than 30 programs for you to choose from.
Preset
The simplest, and most straightforward type of program you'll find on a NordicTrack treadmill is a preset workout. You simply select the program and press "Start." The treadmill does the rest by adjusting speed and incline automatically.
Heart Rate Control
Some, but not all NordicTrack treadmills come with one or more heart rate control programs. In order to use an HRC program, you must either hold on to built-in handgrip heart rate monitors or use a wireless heart rate monitor. Once the treadmill can monitor your heart rate through the monitor, it automatically adjusts speed and incline to keep you within a target heart rate range for the entire workout.
Custom
Custom workouts are like a blank slate, waiting for your input. You program your own pattern of speed and incline adjustments, then save them to the custom workout for future use.
IFit
Almost every NordicTrack treadmill is iFit compatible. This means one or both of two things. Either you can insert an iFit workout card in the treadmill console, where it acts as an extra preset workout, or you can download iFit workouts into the treadmill through your computer or a wireless connection. The iFit workouts adjust the treadmill's speed and incline like a preset workout, but you'll also hear the voice of a personal trainer coaching you through the workout.
Google Trails
A few NordicTrack treadmills include Google Trails workouts. These simulate the terrain of well-known trails such as the Appalachian Trail, Mount Rainier's Skyline Trail or the Diamond Head Trail in Hawaii, with full-color displays on the console to help you feel like you're really there.
Event Training
Some NordicTrack treadmills also offer programs to help you train for a given event: 5k, 10k, half-marathon or marathon, for example. The workouts pace you through the distance selected.
