Seasonal camping is common in Wisconsin and even draws visitors from nearby Chicago. This type of camping offers the convenience of returning to the same campsite weekend after weekend, year after year. Your regular campsite neighbors will begin to feel like family in a relaxing small town atmosphere. Enjoy the fun of camping without the hassle of finding a new camp site each and every time, and you may rest peacefully at night knowing you can return to your favorite vacation spot again and again.

Accommodations

Seasonal campgrounds offer a variety of options from primitive campsites to cabins and other small, semi-permanent structures which may be easily removed if you choose to give up your camp spot. You may save a great deal of time and money on dragging an RV from home to campsite and back again by camping out in your very own semi-permanent structure which can be left on-site for the entire season. Some campgrounds allow you to make your campsite feel like home by personalizing with a small garden, permanent block fire pit or just about any other home-like element you may decide to add.

Amenities

Most seasonal campgrounds offer full hook-ups in large pull-thru sites so you may easily bring in your own RV, hook it up and leave it for the season. Dump stations and easy access to drinking water are also a must when camping in an RV for long periods of time. A well-stocked general store with snack bar on-site is another common amenity. Many seasonal sites maintain large laundry rooms and shower houses for the convenience of their campers.

Activities

Many seasonal campsites are within easy reach of a variety of activities. In some cases, you might enjoy a spacious heated swimming pool, recreation hall and community family room within easy walking distance of your campsite. Other seasonal campgrounds offer basketball, volleyball, ping pong and shuffleboard in a friendly, neighborhood environment. Hayrides and horseshoes, miniature golf, a video game room and free movies are just a few of the many comforts of home you can expect to find at the typical Wisconsin seasonal camping resort.

Local Food

Wisconsin is famous for its cheeses, but there are also a variety of other foods one might enjoy while spending time at a seasonal campground. Cheese curds are a big favorite among locals, and can be eaten either raw or battered and deep-fried. Several small wineries throughout the state offer a variety of wines made from local produce. And no matter where you stay, you will often be within easy reach of a pick-your-own farm where you may select a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables right off the tree or vine.

Seasons

Seasonal campgrounds in Wisconsin are generally open from early spring through late fall. While you may find the occasional campground open in winter for those die-hards who enjoy the average 17.1 degree winter temperatures, most seasonal campers opt to visit in summer. The state of Wisconsin does have the occasional heat wave with temperatures reaching into the 90s, but generally offers visitors a comfortable average summer temperature of 66.8 degrees. The summer season typically ends after Labor Day weekend, but don't let that stop you from enjoying Wisconsin's fantastic fall colors. Visiting during non-peak times is also a great way to avoid crowds, sticky heat and pesky mosquitoes.
