Allied Health School Program
The Vista College has a division of allied health sciences program situated on its El Paso campus. The medical assisting associate degree, medical assisting diploma and certificate, the medical office specialist diploma and certificate, nursing degrees, and the emergency medical technician license are some of the many degrees that you can get from this medical school.
Medical Schools
The Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is a four-year medical institution that contains the departments of anesthesiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, medical education, neuropsychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation, pediatrics, surgery and pathology. To be admitted, medical students-to-be must already have their bachelor of science degree, having completed English, biology, chemistry and mathematical courses. Another key requirement is a good score from the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).
Technical Schools
Texas Tech University's Health Sciences Center is another El Paso medical school that has four campuses and 31 departments comprised of research, education, human resources, clinic and support. In operation since 1969 and associated with Thomason Hospital, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, and the Providence Hospital, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has been accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
University Programs
The University of Texas El Paso has both a medical school, Medical Professions Institute (MPI) and a special Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) for medical students. The JAMP program assists high-performing, low-income high school students, opening the doors of opportunity to pursue their studies through scholarships and pre-med mentoring. The MPI program is specifically targeted to undergraduate degree-holding students who have fulfilled the MCAT exam criteria.
Community College
The El Paso Community College Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) is an allied health degree program that offers students medical courses in hematology, immunology, microbiology and chemistry. Under this program, students intern with a qualified pathologist, medical technologist or laboratory supervisor. Lasting five semesters, this program allows students to carry out medical analysis on blood and other bodily fluids. The associate's degree in applied science is a 72-hour medical course on which students can capitalize. The medical assisting program is a two-year course grounding students in health care, medical office skills and clinical studies. This medical assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants' Endowment.
