What To Look For

You want to be sure the tent is sturdy and safe, but also quick and easy to set up, so you won't have high labor costs. You should also be checking out the stability of the ground where you'll be placing the tent, and have a good idea of what the weather is going to be like so you can be prepared if it gets windy or if it rains, so you can determine the best material for your needs. Some tents are quite sheer, while others are more durable and waterproof.

Common Pitfalls

Large, complicated tent structures can be very costly to rent and to set up. If you can use a smaller, simpler tent it will save you time and money. An uneven surface could also add significantly to your installation cost. It's a good idea to meet with the vendor from whom you'll be renting the tent, at the location where the tent will be, to get an accurate estimate of how much it will cost, and how long it will take to set up.

Where To Buy

The common places to look for a tent are party supply rental businesses in your area, where you can often get package deals that include the tent, tables, chairs, tablecloths and more. For recommendations of shops in your area, check out "Wedding Party Services + Rentals" on theknot.com, which lists reputable businesses in every state.

Cost

On the smaller end of the scale, you can expect to pay $150 to $400, depending on the type of tent you get. Medium-sized tents are typically $500 to $1,400. The largest tents can cost up to $4,200. Frame tents require specialized hardware and are more expensive to install, so they will generally be more expensive than high peaks tents, which are elegant and less expensive, but must be installed on grass as they require stakes to be driven into the ground.

Accessories

Keep in mind, in addition to the tables and chairs, you may need to think about renting heating or cooling devices such as air conditioners or heat lamps for use in the tent. You may be able to rent these from the same place where you get your tent.
