A Ballast Exercise ball is a BOSU brand stability ball that has about 5 pounds of sand inside it. The sand acts in a dynamic fashion and makes a stability ball workout completely new and different as weight shifts inside the ball.

Stability ball workout

A stability ball workout focuses on core strength, balance and stability. For beginners, a stability ball can be challenging to use. Beginners may find that their stability balls often roll away when using the balls for squats or other such exercises. Attempting to use the ball for crunches is also challenging for beginners as the ball moves around and can cause imbalance. People often brace themselves against a wall to help make the ball more stable to use.

Add some sand!

With the sand inside the Ballast ball, the ball stays put and is much more stable to use for squats and other exercises where you may be getting up and down off of the ball. You can sit atop the ball without losing your balance as easily. Standing exercises become new when the sand shifts inside of the ball as you move it from side to side or around and around. The dynamic movement of the ball can make a simple and easy move much more challenging because the weight shifts, forcing your core and balance work overtime to react to the shift.

Price

A Ballast ball costs around $60, which is about twice what a plain air-filled stability ball costs. The ball only comes in one 65-mm size, and if you are very short or very tall it may limit the exercises that you can do with the ball.
