Black eye bags appear under your eyes when skin cells become damaged and your skin gets thinner. When your skin gets thinner, you lose the elasticity and your blood vessels become more visible. This causes black eye bags to appear. Black eye bags are mostly caused by heredity, but they can also be from sleep deprivation and allergies. You can get rid of your black eye bags by eating the right foods, cutting out bad habits and getting enough rest.
Step 1
Hydrate your body. Your body retains water when it is dehydrated because it doesn't know when you will hydrate it again. This causes bloating and bags under your eyes. MayoClinic.com says you should drink at least 64 oz. of water everyday to reduce eye puffiness.
Step 2
Place a teabag over each eye. Teabags contain EGCG, or epigallocatechin gallate. EGCG is an anti-inflammatory agent that can reduce the swelling of your black eye bags. Brew two teabags, drain the water and let the teabags cool. Lie on your couch and put the teabags over your eyes for at least 10 minutes.
Step 3
Eat the right foods. Fruits and veggies are full of vitamin C, which will help your damaged skin cells heal and produce new, healthier cells at a faster rate. New, healthy cells can help get rid of your black eye bags. Eat a serving of fruits and veggies with every meal.
Step 4
Quit smoking. Smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your black eye bags. Smoking sucks all the vitamin C from your skin, thinning it and making the blood vessels more prominent, which darkens your bags. You will see an immediate reduction of your black eye circles once you quit smoking.
Step 5
Use an ice pack to get rid of your black eye bags. The frigid temperature from the ice pack will reduce the swelling. You can use an ice pack, a plastic bag full of ice cubes or even a bag of frozen veggies. Leave the ice on your eye bags for at least 15 minutes.
Step 6
Get your rest. When you are sleep-deprived, your body and skin cells cannot recover from the abuse they go through everyday. When you sleep, your body can recover and renew itself. The National Sleep Foundation says you should sleep at least seven to eight hours every night.
