With hundreds of miles of pristine shoreline and deep woods trails, Minnesota presents campers with an outdoor paradise where hiking, biking, nature walking, boating, fishing and swimming are all within reach. Even in the remotest parts of the state, you can find state park campsites that provide electricity.

Northwestern Minnesota

Among the lakes that dot the northwest portion of the state of Minnesota, you'll find a variety of state parks that offer lake access and thick north woods for hiking and exploring. Parks like Old Mill and Hayes Lake State Park offer roughly 30 or so campsites with around half of them providing electric hook-ups for powering up your RV or electrical gadgets during your stay. Both of the parks offer access to area waterways, with Old Mill State Park perched next to the Middle River and Hayes Lake State Park located on Hayes Lake.

Northeastern Minnesota

Lake Superior dominates the northeastern side of Minnesota. It also offers a nice selection of state parks where you can hook up to some juice to take advantage of any electric amenities you happened to bring along. The rocky shores of Lake Superior offer heart-pumping hiking opportunities along with deep woods trails that make for an exciting mountain bike adventure. Temperance River State Park has 55 campsites, 18 of which offer electric hook-ups. The river creates waterfalls and cascades as it runs down to the lake, and you'll find 22 miles of northern Minnesota backwoods to fit your hiking fancy.

Central Minnesota

Central Minnesota is home to some of the best fishing in the state, with Mille Lacs Lake producing copious amounts of walleye all year round. The central part of the state is also home to Itasca State Park, which happens to be the oldest park in the state, founded in 1891. The park is a world in and of itself. Located at the headwaters of the Mississippi, Itasca State Park covers over 32,000 acres and contains more than 100 lakes. Itasca offers a diversity of activities including camping, fishing, boating, hiking and historic sites. They have 100 electrical sites and accept RVs that measure 60 feet or less.

Southwestern Minnesota

Southwestern Minnesota has a heavy Indian influence with both the Sioux and Mound Indians at one time having a prominent spot in the landscape. Today, the area is also known for its old fort complexes such as Fort Ridgely State Park. Fort Ridgely offers both primitive and full-service campsites; 15 of their creekside campsites also provide electric hook-ups. The park features an amphitheater, bird-watching opportunities and a seven-mile paved hiking trail.

Southeastern Minnesota

The southeastern portion of Minnesota is dominated by the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, outlying suburbs and farmland. The St. Croix River, which creates the boundary between Minnesota and Wisconsin, offers a variety of state parks. Interstate State Park is actually between Minnesota and Wisconsin, surrounded by the St. Croix. The campground has 22 electric sites along with riverfront access. You can also head 20 miles down river to William O'Brien State Park where the river current slows and there is an abundance of hiking trails that wind through the woods of the area's rolling hills. William O'Brien has 77 electrical sites along with cabins, showers and flush toilets.
