Almost anybody can get freckles, but they occur more often on those with fair skin. There are many causes of freckles, the most common being genetics and exposure to the sun. Freckles are usually harmless and are more a cosmetic concern than a health concern. However, according to Cleveland Clinic, those who freckle easily are also more likely to develop skin cancer. The best way to deal with freckles is to prevent them. Stay out of direct sunlight and use sunscreen daily. Several methods can be used to remove freckles. Individual results will vary.
Step 1
Consult a dermatologist. Several medical options are available for removing freckles, including liquid nitrogen, prescription-strength retinoids and chemical acid peels. These methods generally require a period of healing after the procedure.
Step 2
Use a bleaching cream. Find a lightening cream that contains hydroquinone, which inhibits the production of melanin, the pigment that produces freckles. Follow the application instructions carefully.
Step 3
Use a cosmetic cover-up. Available at any cosmetics store, cover-up will hide the freckles when needed. The make-up washes off and will need to be reapplied.
Step 4
Use a natural remedy. Many natural ingredients can be used to lighten freckles. Apply fresh lemon juice to your face and rinse off after 15 minutes, or wash your face with sour milk, then rinse. The lactic acid in sour milk acts as a natural facial peel.
