Side Effects of Sronyx

Women seeking an oral contraceptive may ask their doctors or gynecologists to prescribe the brand-name medication Sronyx. The medicine, a combination of the hormones levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol, works to prevent conception by stopping ovulation. Sronyx, Drugs.com states, also makes it more difficult for sperm to join with the female egg to produce a pregnancy. Women take the medication as a daily oral pill.

Stomach Discomfort

Taking Sronyx may cause the woman to experience stomach disturbances, primarily when she starts the regimen of using the contraceptive. She may feel nauseous followed by a need to vomit, MedlinePlus indicates. She also may feel bloated, as if she has eaten a large meal as a side effect of taking Sronyx. The use of this oral contraceptive also may make her appetite change, meaning she may feel more hungry than usual or less so. This also can lead to her gaining or losing weight without attempting to do so. These kinds of stomach disturbance side effects of Sronyx classify as non-serious. Doctors expect them to cease on their own, but MedlinePlus recommends that the woman should question the doctor about them if she feels they occur in severe form or do not end following her body's adjustment to the medicine.

Menstrual Changes

When a woman uses Sronyx, she can expect her menstrual periods to become regulated. However, in some cases, she may experience changes in the way her cycles occur. For example, she may have more or less blood flow than normal. She may experience pain during cycles, MedlinePlus indicates. She also may develop amenorrhea, a condition in which periods do not occur. None of these side effects classify as serious and all of them should rectify themselves after the woman acclimates to taking Sronyx regularly.

Vaginal Problems

Sronyx can cause some side effects in the vagina. It can, for example, cause the woman to produce a white discharge. The medication also can cause surface problems of the vagina that include itchiness, burning, swelling, irritation and reddening. Any of these side effects of the contraceptive that cause the woman concern should be reported to the physician. Otherwise, they should disappear without intervention from a medical professional.

Breast Problems

The use of Sronyx may cause side effects in the woman's breasts usually at the start of use of the contraceptive. She may, for example, feel tenderness in her breasts. Her breasts may enlarge because of the action of the female hormones contained within Sronyx in her body. She also may produce a discharge from her breasts. Generally, these side effects stop without additional treatment.
