Wu-Yi Diet Tea is an organic tea manufactured by Global Organix in Austin, Texas. According to Global Organix, the tea contains twice the amount of antioxidant levels as regular tea, but this claim is not approved or evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Global Organix claims the diet tea helps to suppress your appetite, increase metabolism, boost energy and aid in digestion.

Oolong Tea

Oolong tea, derived from Camellia sinensis leaves, contains polyphenols, a powerful antioxidant used in Chinese alternative medicine for its fat-burning properties. One serving, or one tea bag, of Wu-Yi Diet Tea contains 900 mg of organic oolong tea. Oolong's processing involves only partially fermenting the tea leaves, thereby lowering the polyphenol content and increasing the caffeine, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Several small studies reported the oolong tea's effectiveness as a fat burner by increasing energy and metabolism. Dr. William Rumple, a Physiologist at the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland reports that the consumption of oolong tea daily increased energy levels, daily calories burned and fat burning increases by 12 percent. In addition, another small study performed at the Department of Applied Nutrition at the University of Tokushima School of Medicine in Tokushima, Japan, found that oolong tea surpassed green tea in energy and calorie burning properties. Green Tea Extract

Green tea extract is a derivative of the green leaf tea. In Chinese medicine, green tea helps to increase calorie and fat metabolism while decreasing appetite. Wu-Yi Diet Tea contains 200 mg of organic green tea extract in each tea bag. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, clinical studies suggest that the catechins in the green tea are responsible for boosting metabolism and burning fat. Dr. Joseph Mercola adds that evidence from studies on the long-term consumption of tea catechins showed that they were beneficial in burning fat and aiding your body in burning fuel, such as fat, to increase metabolism.

Peppermint Leaves

Peppermint is a combination of watermint and spearmint and the leaves have been used in herbal remedies for stomach ailments. Wu-Yi Diet Tea has 400 mg of organic peppermint leaves. The University of Maryland Medical Center notes that the peppermint leaf is a mild stimulant, and it may help to speed up metabolism while acting as a natural appetite suppressant.

Bryan Raudenbush, Ph.D., an associate professor of psychology at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia reports that inhaling the scent of peppermint periodically throughout the day, helped to reduce the caloric intake of the individuals who participated in the study. The research reported that 3,000 fewer calories were consumed over the course of one week. In addition, Raudenbush suggests mints or mint-scented hand lotion as an alternative to inhaling the scent of peppermint leaves. (Reference MSNBC)

Ginseng

Ginseng is a root that is a part of traditional Native American medicine for its stimulant properties, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Wu-Yi Diet tea has 100 mg of organic Panax quinquefolius, or American ginseng in one tea bag. Dr. Robert Saper and associates from the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts released information in the "American Family Physician" journal that listed ginseng as one of the common dietary supplements for weight loss and stated that ginseng helps to increase the metabolism of carbohydrates. Medline Plus notes that ginseng is popular with athletes to help improve stamina. However, the studies published show mixed results.
