Denver might have an average winter snowfall of 62 inches, but that doesn't keep RV parks from staying open throughout the year. Guests who stay in Denver during winter should understand how to winterize their RVs and be prepared to live only with electrical hookups during the coldest weeks. The best Denver area RV parks are located in the suburbs, but Denver has a comprehensive public transportation system connecting it to all regional neighborhoods.

Denver Suburbs

Denver's southeast suburb of Aurora is a recreation-oriented community with two reservoirs, numerous golf courses and public parks. RVers who need to be near downtown Denver, the Denver International Airport, Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center or the Jewish Hospital will find Denver Meadows Mobile Home and RV Park has easy access to these facilities. Year-round full-hookup campsites are available with 30- or 50-amp electricity and there are guest laundry facilities, restrooms with showers and a large recreation room. Monthly rates are available.

Chatfield State Park

Chatfield State Park is a year-round reservoir facility in the foothills of southwest Denver, offering camping, hiking, boating and wildlife viewing. This 1,400-surface-area reservoir is situated at an elevation of 5,400 feet and features a diverse selection of wildlife, plants and geology. Chatfield campers have a choice of 197 sites, all within walking distance of the lake. Full or partial hookups are available, and the campground also has a dump station, restrooms with showers, laundry facilities and firewood sales.

Cherry Creek State Park

Often referred to as Denver's back yard, Cherry Creek State Park features an 880-acre reservoir surrounded by rolling prairies and riparian habitats. More than 40 species of mammals inhabit the park, as well as the bullsnake, a non-venomous reptile that is often mistaken for a rattlesnake.

Like Chatfield Reservoir, Cherry Creek has a large off-leash dog training area. Year-round sites are available for guests, and most have full hookups. The park also has restrooms with showers, coin-operated laundry facilities and a RV dump station. Cherry Creek is located south of Denver, in Aurora.

Convenient Location

RVing Seniors looking for a convenient place to play or live near Denver will find deluxe accommodations in a safe environment at South Park Mobile Home and RV Community. This 55-and-older neighborhood is situated along the banks of Bear Creek in Englewood, a southwest suburb of Denver.

Light rail, bike paths, shopping and medical facilities are all located nearby. South Park community members are active seniors whose lives revolve around the large recreation room where daily gatherings and activities take place all year long. Amenities include a heated swimming pool, Internet access, laundry facilities and restrooms with showers.

Urban Camping

Flying Saucer RV Park is an urban camping getaway situated on 13 acres along Bear Creek in the Denver suburb of Sheridan. You can relax at this shady riverfront campground or venture out to nearby golf courses and an entertainment complex with shopping and dining.

There is also a light rail station with routes to downtown Denver, located just 5 minutes from the park. This pet-friendly park is open year-round and features full hookup campsites, laundry facilities, restrooms with showers and outside RV storage.

Wide-Open Spaces

Staying in Denver doesn't have to mean being surrounded by concrete and congestion. The Prospect RV Park, located in the west Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge, is adjacent to 250 acres of open-space preserve with multiuse paths, fishing lakes, wildlife viewing and a walking path connecting the preserve and the RV park.

You can leave your cars at home because the Prospect RV Park is next to public bus transportation that goes directly into Denver. Prospect RV Park facilities are year-round and include full hookup RV sites, wireless Internet, laundry facilities and restrooms with showers.
