The idea of jumping out of an airplane for fun may seem crazy and dangerous at first, but under the supervision of professional instructors skydiving can be a very safe and exhilarating experience. Eloy, Arizona, is a particularly good place to skydive because of its flat terrain and consistently calm weather conditions.
First-Time Jumpers
Eloy, Arizona, is home to one of the world's biggest skydiving facilities, run by SkyDive Arizona. It allows people who have never skydived before to jump in tandem with certified instructors from a height of 13,000 feet. However, men must weigh no more than 220 pounds and women must weigh no more than 200 pounds. All jumpers must be at least 18 years old.
Risks
Skydiving is statistically a very safe sport. Thousands of people successfully skydive every year, but there are still some very real risks even for healthy individuals. The absolute worst case skydiving scenario is the parachute not inflating properly due to mechanical failure, operator error or unexpected weather conditions. Lesser risks such as breaking a bone during a rough landing are also present. While these risks can never be completely eliminated, at Eloy's SkyDive Arizona facility, you will always be jumping with highly experienced instructors who use their own, carefully maintained equipment in a calm, predictable climate, thus keeping all risks to a minimum.
Weather
Eloy, Arizona is located directly between the cities of Phoenix and Tucson, both of which are known for having primarily hot, dry and sunny weather. Having about 10 inches of rain per year is common for this area of the world. Not only does this type of climate make conditions during your jump day very safe, it also minimizes the chance that your reservation will have to be postponed due to inclement weather. This makes Eloy a great place to stop for a day or two on vacation---your just about guaranteed a nice day to jump.
Indoor Skydiving
If the people you are traveling with will be skydiving and you cannot bring yourself to actually jump out of an airplane, there are many alternatives. One of the most unique activities is "indoor skydiving," which involves entering a vertical wind tunnel. At the bottom of the tunnel, several large fans force air upward which provide enough lift to move people off the ground. You do not jump out of an airplane or fly very high off the ground as in skydiving, but the flying sensation is quite similar.
Amenities
The skydiving facilities in Eloy offer much more than just skydiving. Most feature lodging, shuttle services, campgrounds, RV hookups, spas and a local nightlife with bars and restaurants.
