The Type B Diet is one of the four blood type-based diet plans originally recommended by Dr. Peter A'damo in his book, "Eat Right For Your Type." According to A'damo, you will lose weight, decrease the symptoms and incidence of all types of allergies, and enhance the function of your immune system if you eat foods that are specified as the best for your particular blood type. However, remember that the Type B Diet has not been clinically proven as a treatment for any health condition.

Meat, Seafood and Beans

The Type B Diet recommends that people with this blood type confine themselves to eating only lean red meats such as venison, rabbit and lamb or mutton, and certain types of seafood, including salmon, cod, haddock, halibut, mahimahi, sea trout, sole, ocean perch, flounder, pike, porgy, sturgeon and sardines. They may also eat beans such as kidney, lima and navy beans.

Dairy Products and Eggs

On the Type B Diet, you can eat 1 egg, two to four times a week, and use goat milk, skim or 2 percent milk and kefir. The diet allows many types of cheese--cottage cheese, farmer cheese, feta, mozzarella, ricotta and goat cheese--and yogurt, including frozen yogurt.

Grains

The Type B Diet specifies rice--especially brown rice--millet, oats and spelt as the best grains. Rice cakes, Wasa and Fin Crisp are also recommended. For bread, pasta and for all other baked goods, avoid products containing wheat flour and choose only those made from oat or rice flour, or, alternatively, make your own.

Fruits and Vegetables

The Type B Diet recommends choosing primarily green vegetables, including beet greens, broccoli, kale, collard and mustard greens, all types of cabbage and Brussels sprouts. Other vegetables include shiitake mushrooms, parsnips, all types of hot peppers, eggplant, carrots, sweet potatoes and all types of yams. The best fruits for a type B individual include all types of grapes, cranberries, bananas and red, green and dark plums. D'Adamo advises that, as much as possible, you purchase your fruits and vegetables from a local source.

Beverages

Type B individuals should drink 8, 8-oz. of chlorine and fluorine-free water four to seven times a day, as well as fresh juices from pineapple, papaya, grapes, cranberries and cabbage. Additionally, any of the fruits or vegetables recommended for type B people can be consumed as a juice. Green tea and herbal teas made from sage, ginger, ginseng, rose hips, peppermint, parsley and licorice are also recommended.

Oils and Spices

Use olive oil--primarily extra virgin olive oil--as your primary fat in cooking and in dressings, and season foods with cayenne pepper, horseradish, curry, ginger or parsley.
