The sport of boxing requires intense preparation. A fighter has to be in superb condition before he gets into the ring to square off against an opponent who wants to deliver hard punches to his body and head, and he must wear his equipment properly in order to deliver hard punches himself. That equipment includes handwraps designed to protect the bones in the hand from damage when landing a punch. Boxers put handwraps on under their boxing gloves.

Step 1

Place your handwrap face-down on the table. There is clearly a top and a bottom, because the handwrap is often marked "this side up" so you know how to put it on. Notice a small loop on the end of the handwrap. This goes over your thumb.

Step 2

Wrap the handwrap around your wrist three times. Then wrap it around your thumb before going back around your wrist. Make sure you wrap three times around your thumb and go around your wrist each time.

Step 3

Secure the wrap around your hand and knuckles after wrapping the thumb. Make a fist once you have wrapped the thumb and before you go around hand and knuckles to make sure the tape is not too tight.

Step 4

Spread your fingers while you are are wrapping around your hands,so that you don't wrap too tightly. Wrap around your fingers three times before going back around your wrist.

Step 5

Take the wrap through the gap between your middle finger and fourth finger. Use the excess material to go around your wrist, and then secure the end with the Velcro at the end of the tape.
