For those not born with perfect pearly whites, several options are available for teeth straightening. If you do not prefer traditional orthodontia, which gives you a mouth full of metal, you do have alternatives.
Veneers
Veneers are a quick fix in orthodontic treatment. The entire front of the tooth enamel is removed and a thin piece of tooth-shaped porcelain or plastic is glued to the front of the tooth. It can be completed in three office visits. As of August 2009, the cost ranges from $700 to $2,000 per tooth.
Dental bonding
Dental bonding fixes chipped, cracked or discolored teeth. It also can help fix partially crooked teeth. Costs range from $100 to $1,000 per tooth as of August 2009.
Lumineers
Lumineers are similar in style and procedure to veneers, but are thinner. There are also no shots/drilling of the teeth. Costs range from $700 to $1,100 per Lumineer as of August 2009.
Invisalign
A relatively new option on the market today is Invisalign. They are invisible aligners that fit over your teeth. You change them every two weeks. Each aligner is manufactured for the client. Costs run around $5,000, but that varies for each patient. Not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign. Those with severe dental problems will most likely need metal braces.
