A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that one in 200 kids in the United States eats a vegetarian diet. There are many types of meatless diets. The most inclusive is the ovo-lacto vegetarian diet. This diet excludes meat but includes dairy products and eggs. If your child is going vegetarian, or you just want to cut down on the amount of meat he consumes, it's easy to whip together some meatless meals.
Breakfast
Eliminating bacon and sausage in the morning still leaves you with plenty of meatless breakfast meals. Make a vegetarian omelet that includes eggs, assorted chopped vegetables and cheese. Fruit smoothies are another breakfast for those skipping the meat. Blend together some yogurt, fruits and a little fruit juice to create a tasty morning drink for your kids. Try adding some soft, drained tofu to increase the protein, suggests Kids Health.
Lunch
Burritos and tacos are a fun meal kids can build themselves, after you do the cooking. Instead of basing the taco or burrito around meat, build it around black beans or other beans your children enjoy. You can still spice up the beans. Add cheese, salsa and other veggies to create a fun, colorful and nutritious meatless meal.
Dinner
You probably already make meatless Italian dinners that your kids love. Most kids love pizza. To make it a meatless dinner for your kids, just don't use meat toppings like pepperoni, sausage or ham. Try bell peppers, mushrooms or olives instead. You can always just stick with plain cheese too. Pasta with marinara sauce is another meatless Italian dinner to cook for your kids.
