As you get older, you may find yourself wondering about an old friend from summer camp, your freshman college dorm, or your first job out of college. You may wonder where they are now, what they are doing and how you can get back in touch with them. Luckily, in an age of advanced technology, it is much easier to find and meet old friends than ever before. Use a combination of detective work and Internet searches to reconnect with old pals.
Step 1
Determine your old friend's specific first and last name. You will have a much easier time tracking down an old friend if you can remember his or her exact name. Use resources such as old yearbooks or company directories to help your search. Also contact other acquaintances who knew your old friend. Talking with them may help you remember your friend's specific name.
Step 2
Consolidate whatever information you have about your old friend. This includes information such as where the person lives now or has lived in the past; where he works or used to work; and what acquaintances of yours corresponded with the old friend. All of this information compiled together may lead you to your old friend. If not, this information will help you in the next steps of your search.
Step 3
Join a social networking site. Sites such as Facebook have helped millions of people reconnect with old friends. Through these sites you can search for friends through friends, common affiliations, location, interests.
Step 4
Conduct a "people search" through the Internet. White pages has been replaced with much more advanced technology that allows you to search for friends with more than just a name and location. Use the information you gathered to search for your friend using as much data as possible including age, marriage status, high school, location or military service.
Step 5
Contact common affiliations to search for your friend. If you attended high school or college together, contact the alumni office for information regarding your friend's location. Create friend groups based on affiliation through social networking sites. This will help bring together old groups of friends, and can help draw your old friend in.
Step 6
Talk with your friend via the phone, email or social networking site, and make plans to meet together. You can now get together, catch up and reminisce.
