Living in the heart of Cajun country, Lafayette residents enjoy good food and fun. Several festivals occur throughout the year showcasing the city's Cajun and Creole cultures and the resident's hospitality. Park your RV in June to enjoy the Crawfish Festival, in April for the International Festival, in August for the Zydeco Music Festival or in October for Germanfest.

Geography

Lafayette, the parish seat of Lafayette Parish, is 47 square miles and has 110,000 residents as of the 2000 U.S. Census. The city experiences mild winters and hot-humid summers. According to the city's travel source, Lafayette is located at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Interstate 49 between New Orleans, Louisiana, and Houston, Texas. The city is 35 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico and directly on the Vermillion River.

Private Parks

Private parks serving the Lafayette area include Acadiana Park Campground, Bayou Wilderness Resort, Maxie's Campgrounds, Catfish Heaven Aquafarm and RV Park, Frog City RV Park, and KOA Kampground of Lafayette. All campgrounds have 50-amp connections, Bayou and Catfish have 30-amp hookups available and Frog City has 20 and 30-amp connections in addition to the 50-amp connections. Acadiana Park Campground is directly in Lafayette and the other camps are located within 15 miles of the city's center.

Nearby City Park

With 737 RV sites, City of Rayne RV Park located 15 miles west of Lafayette, offers the ideal location for your next rally. Park utilities include propane from a privately owned source, city sewage, at designated sites, water and electricity. Meeting spaces include access to the 20,000-square-foot City of Rayne Civic Center which is adjacent to the park, the park's 16,000-square-foot outdoor pavilion and four commercial kitchen facilities. Recreational activities include walking and biking tours, onsite walking track, tennis courts and a swimming pool.

State Parks

State parks serving the Lafayette area are Chicot State Park, 58 miles outside of Lafayette and Cypremort State Park, 45 miles outside of Lafayette. Chicot State park is 6400 acres and offers largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and red ear sunfish in Lake Chicot. The 185-acre Cypermort Point State Park has a half-mile, man-made beach and a stay here may include fishing in the bay, the Gulf or along the 100-foot pier. Both parks offer opportunities for swimming, sailing or hiking where you may spot sightings of various wildlife creatures such as nutria, alligators, deer, black bears and rabbits.

Park Accommodations

Whether private or state owned, all parks offer shower and restroom facilities. Most camps have a playground onsite and leashed pets are welcome. Larger camps, such as Rayne RV, provide a cleaning crew that details the campground and collect trash daily and some camps, such as Maxie's, provide laundry facilities. Catfish Heaven Aquafarm, though not as huge as Rayne RV, provides accommodations for large groups and caters Cajun meals and barbecues; Frog City offers free Wi-Fi and KOA offers onsite RV repairs.
