PG tips is a brand of tea that is popular in the United Kingdom and former British colonies. Brooke, Bond and Company began selling PG tips in the 1930s. The tea is currently manufactured by the Anglo-Dutch consumer products conglomerate, Unilever, and the number one selling brand in the U.K.

Varieties

The original PG tips is black tea. One cup contains half the caffeine of a cup of coffee. The company also sells instant freeze-dried black tea as well as a decaffeinated blend. Green Tea PG tips is also available in lemon, mint and "pure green" flavors. The company also markets a special blend of black tea made from high-quality tea tips from Ceylon and Kenya.

Packaging

PG tips tea bags are pyramid shaped, a design meant bring out more flavor from the team. Loose tea and one-cup bags are also available.

Cost and Availability

While PG tips is not as widely available in the United States as it is in the U.K., some stores, especially specialty food shops and upscale supermarkets, sell the brand. As of 2010, an 80 count package of PG tips black tea cost $7.99 at Cost Plus World Market.
