Denver, Colorado, has many different types of art camps. Kids can attend general art camps where they are able to try out a variety of forms of artistic expression. However, kids with specific interests may attend specialty art camps that include camps for theater, music and pottery. There are also Colorado camps that aren't art-specific but take an arts-and-crafts approach to their events and activities. Each of these camps provides creative activities for kids of all ages.

General Art Camps

General art camps, where kids spend their days involved with different types of art, are very popular in the Denver area. These include day camps and sleep-away camps. The Academy of Art camp is a weekly camp offering drawing, pottery and crafts for kids ages five through 12. The MACC Art Academy is a bit broader, offering diverse arts and crafts programs for grades 1 through 12. The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities is even more diverse, with opportunities for kids age 18 months to 18 years to try everything from fine arts to performing arts.

Theater Camps

Children who are specifically interested in theater and performing arts can enjoy a number of Denver programsl. The MACC Wolf Theatre Academy, held at the same place as the MACC Art Academy, is a pre-K to12 program taught by theater professionals. Rocky Mountain Theater for Kids is for kids ages three through 16, and offers summer day camps. The Chad Allen Magic Camp is a summer day camp for kids specifically interested in performing magic on stage.

Music Camps

Music is a popular hobby for many kids. Many of them enjoy Camp Jam, which is offered as a day camp and also an overnight camp. Campers ages seven through17 form a band, meet rock professionals and perform onstage. Harmony Road Music Academy, with day programs, is for more serious musicians who want to develop their vocal, guitar or piano skills at a summer camp.

Niche Art Camps

Theater and music aren't the only niche interests kids can explore at camp. There are other niche camps in Denver too. For example, Crackpots Pottery Studio offers summer day camps for kids over the age of six who are specifically interested in pottery. Mizel Museum has Jewish cultural arts day camps. South Suburban Parks and Recreation also offers cultural day camps. And iD Tech Camps is a nationwide program that offers a media arts summer camp for kids at the University of Denver campus.

Other Artsy Camps

Kids who love art but also have other interests may want to check out one of Denver's summer camps that isn't arts-only but takes an artsy approach to activities. For example, the JCC Ranch Camp is a Judaic equestrian camp that includes art activities as a focus. The Fountain Valley School of Colorado is a sports camp that focuses on arts during downtime. And Pump It Up, in nearby Parker, offers a Jump 'n Art Summer Camp where art is combined with exercise in indoor inflatable play areas.
