If you have been playing regularly with the same set of golf clubs for a season or more, you will come to a point where it's time to regrip your clubs. One of the ways to regrip your clubs is by using grip tape to put the new grips on the surface of your shaft and secure them evenly. Putting new grips on your club can give you a greater feel for your clubs when you put them into play.

Step 1

Cut off your old grips with a utility knife. This is done by making two vertical cuts down the sides of the grips that are currently in place. The cuts should be 3 to 4 inches long. Reach inside the grip with your fingers after you have made the cuts and pull off the old grip.

Step 2

Clean the shafts of the club once you have removed the old grip. You can't put new grip tape on the shaft and a new grip on unless the surface is cleaned well. Pour rubbing alcohol on a cloth and rub it on the shaft until all glue, dirt, rubber and other remnants are off the club.

Step 3

Apply double-sided grip tape around the top of the shaft of the club. Double-sided grip tape should be applied in a serpentine fashion down the top 4 inches of the club. After you have put on the tape, knead it and flatten it until all the lumps and air bubbles are out and the grip tape is sitting properly on the shaft.

Step 4

Place the grip on top of the grip tape. The grip is normally a one piece item that fits over the top of the shaft and fits right into place. Secure the grip with your fingers by applying pressure to activate the adhesive in the double-sided tape.

Step 5

Let the grips sit for 24 hours to dry and cure before using your clubs. Make sure the clubs sit in a dry area with as little moisture as possible.

Things You'll Need
