Your eyes need a constant supply of blood to ensure they receive the necessary nutrients for good vision and to keep the blood vessels flexible, says Holisticonline.com. Regular eye exercises and relaxation techniques can help to ensure the blood vessels in your eyes are active and promote healthy blood flow.

Exercise Eyes

The blood vessels in your eyes are just as prone to thickening and becoming rigid over time as any other part of your body, according to Holisticonline.com. This is particularly the case if you spend long hours in front of a computer or TV, as these activities cause you to blink less and reduce the movement of your eyes--both natural ways to promote circulation. To promote blood flow to your eyes, the Chinese Holistic Health Exercises website recommends rolling them in wide circles, first clockwise then anti-clockwise, 20 times in each direction. Keep your eyes open throughout this exercise and gradually increase the speed of the rotations. Do this exercise up to three times a day to stretch your eye muscles and boost circulation.

Try Water Therapy

The Dark Circles Around Eyes website says that a hot eye bath followed by a bracing cold bath provides a workout for the blood vessels in your eyes. Hot water expands your blood vessels and increases blood flow to your extremities--including your eyes. Cold water causes the blood vessels to contract, forcing blood to your internal organs and, therefore, flushing toxins away from your extremities. The Dark Circles Around Eyes website suggests that when taking your usual hot shower, quickly change to very cold water at the end. To target the eyes, be sure to place your face under the water on both temperatures.
