Brown spots on the face can be caused by too much sun exposure, stress, hormones and genetics. Brown spots on the face are most commonly caused by over exposure to sunlight. The over exposure to the sun causes the melanin to make brown spots when the pigment in the skin is altered by the sun's UV rays. There are ways to treat the skin on your face so the brown spots will start to fade and disappear.

Step 1

Wear sunscreen everyday before you go outside in the sun. The sunscreen will protect you from the sun's harmful rays and sunscreen will keep constant moisture on your skin that will help prevent new brown spots from forming.

Step 2

Rub face lightening creams on your face once a day to reduce the color of the brown spots. Face creams that contain hydroquinone will help fade darkened skin.

Step 3

Add Castor oil to the brown spots in the morning and the evening. Put the oil on a cotton ball and lightly dab the area of brown spots.

Step 4

Take a lemon and squeeze the juice out of it onto a cotton ball. Apply to the area of brown skin for one month until it starts to fade from the acid in the lemon.

Step 5

Dab the brown spots on the skin with buttermilk once a day. The lactic acid in the buttermilk will help exfoliate the skin and fade the brown spots.

Tips and Warnings

  • Give each method at least 30 days before you start seeing results.
  • Consult your doctor for medical advice if the methods of removing brown spots do not work for you.
