Vitamins for a Good Complexion

Having a good skin complexion is not difficult. Many people suffer from dry, brittle or thin skin, which gives off a bad complexion and makes skin look very unhealthy. There are a number of vitamins, minerals and supplements that can help to keep your skin healthy and strong, while ensuring a good complexion.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps to enhance the production of collagen, an important protein that helps make skin, scar tissue, blood vessels and ligaments. Vitamin C is very helpful when it comes to repairing tissues, skin and bones. It is also essential for healing wounds and maintaining teeth. According to Northwestern Health Sciences University, vitamin C helps to protect your skin from damage when you are exposed to ultraviolet rays from the sun. The University of Maryland Medical Center says that a low amount of vitamin C can result in dry and scaly skin. Citrus fruits like oranges are excellent sources of this vitamin.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin and is responsible for producing the natural oil sebum on your scalp and face, helping to keep it hydrated and fresh. Vitamin A helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores on the face, while ensuring that the pores are healthy and intact, according to Northwestern Health Sciences University. Good sources of vitamin E include carrots and dark leafy vegetables.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E contains antioxidant properties, which help to protect our organs and tissues from free radicals. Free radicals are unstable substances that form when our food is transformed into energy and contribute to many conditions such as the aging process. Vitamin E helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and works to improve the skin's texture. Vitamin E can be found in nuts and corn.
