According to MayoClinic.com, cystic acne is the most severe form of acne. Cystic acne forms when dead skin cells and oil produced by the sebaceous glands are trapped within the hair follicles, often resulting in boil-like bumps that are inflamed and infected. There are some home remedies for cystic acne though, according to Julia Lawless, author of "The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to The Use of Aromatic Oils In Aromatherapy, Herbalism, Health and Well Being."
Essential Oil Blend
Step 1
Combine ½ tsp. cananga essential oil, ½ tsp. German chamomile essential oil, ½ tsp. clove bud essential oil, ½ tsp. patchouli essential oil, ¼ tsp. myrtle essential oil, ¼ tsp. sage essential oil, ¼ tsp. thyme essential oil and ¾ cup jojoba oil in a jar or bottle with a tight-fitting top.
Step 2
Cover the bottle and shake it vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds to combine the essential oils and jojoba oil.
Step 3
Pour a small amount of the mixture onto your fingertips. Gently massage the oil onto your skin for 2 to 3 minutes. Leave the oil on for 20 to 25 minutes after application.
Step 4
Rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Wash with a mild cleanser and apply your regular moisturizer if you use one.
Step 5
Use this treatment once daily for as long as needed. Discontinue use if the mixture causes excessive redness, itching or burning.
Step 6
Store unused portions of the mixture in a cool, dark and dry place between uses. Discard the oil after 60 days if not completely used.
