The best way to get vitamins is from eating a balanced diet. However, those who do not always meet their needs through diet alone can benefit from a vitamin supplement. Whole food vitamin supplements contain vitamins in absorbable complexes, along with other important nutrients such as antioxidants. According to the Mayo Clinic, the best supplements provide 100 percent of the daily value for most vitamins, and are not necessarily the most expensive options.

Men's Multi

Whole food vitamins for men provide antioxidants along with vitamins. For example, Rainbow Light makes an organic men's multivitamin with antioxidants from organic acai and goji berries, broccoli and kale. Other whole foods in this multivitamin include spirulina, green tea, and herbs such as ginseng and saw palmetto. Each serving size of four capsules provides 50 percent of the daily value for vitamin A and at least 100 percent of the daily value for vitamins C, D, E and the B vitamins. Men typically do not need iron supplements, and these multivitamins do not provide iron. Because they are organic, the whole foods in this multivitamin supplement are not grown with pesticides. The Food and Drug Administration has not evaluated the health or safety of this supplement.

Women's Multi

In addition to essential vitamins, daily whole food supplements for women should provide iron, which is essential for women's health. Now Foods makes a Multi-Food Complex for women with 33 percent of the daily value for iron in each four capsule serving. These capsules also provide at least 100 percent of the daily value for all of the vitamins. This supplement provides flax seed lignans and antioxidants from organic tomatoes, cherries, berries and spirulina. For digestive health, this vitamin has probiotic bacteria. The Food and Drug Administration does not assess health benefit claims of dietary supplements, and women should investigate supplements before choosing one.

Children's Liquid

The best whole food vitamins for children are palatable and absorbable. Some children do not like to swallow pills, and a flavored liquid supplement is a good option. An example of a children's whole food vitamin is IntraKid All-in-One from Drucker Labs. This raspberry flavored liquid provides at least 100 percent of the daily value for the vitamins. It has ingredients from 25 fruits, including apples, bananas and berries, and 14 vegetables including spinach, asparagus and kale. This supplement also supplies essential fatty acids and amino acids to support growth, development and good health. The Food and Drug Administration has not evaluated this supplement for its health claims or safety, and you should always consult your pediatrician before giving your child a dietary supplement.
