It is a fact of life that with regular use, CDs will eventually get scratched. Sometimes, even with only occasional use, a CD will get scratched. It can be disheartening if a CD that contains your favorite music or family photos is ruined. You can keep your CDs clean, and even repair scratches, using natural products found in the home.

Clean Cloth

Perhaps the easiest way to clean a CD, is to use a clean, lint-free cloth. Hold the CD by its outer edges, or with your finger through the hole, and stroke outward from the center. Avoid using circles, because it may cause scratches.

Toothpaste

Toothpaste is a natural scratch remover for CDs, and will get your CD clean and working once again. Mix a mildly abrasive toothpaste with water, then apply to your CD scratch with a clean cloth, according to Household Management 101. Move from the middle to the outside, then wipe with a clean damp cloth and air dry before playing.

Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol will keep your CDs clean and help avoid problems. Apply some rubbing alcohol to a cotton ball, then rub from the center to the outside edge of your CD.

Baby Wipes

Baby wipes will work to clean your CDs of fingerprints and smudges whether they contain alcohol or not. Just use the wipe to clean the surface of the CD from the inside to the outside.

Banana Peel

The OPH Good Housekeeping website claims that the inside of a banana peel will clean off your CDs and remove scratches. Just rub the inside of the peel over the CD, then wipe off with a clean, dry cloth, followed by a damp cloth. The banana will fill in deeper scratches so the CD will no longer skip.
