Running, walking or jogging on a treadmill is one of the best ways to burn calories, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. NordicTrack, a fitness equipment company, manufactures several treadmill machines designed to allow you to experience the benefits of treadmill workouts within the comfort of your own home. Even the best treadmill can occasionally malfunction. If your NordicTrack machine isn't working properly, try to identify and fix the problems on your own.
Step 1
Verify that the NordicTrack treadmill is connected to a power source if it doesn't respond to its power switch. Ideally, the machine should be plugged directly into an outlet instead of through a peripheral device like an extension chord.
Step 2
Make sure the NordicTrack's walking belt is aligned if you hear strange noises while running the treadmill, or if you notice one edge of the running belt seems to be worn away or frayed. Over time, the belt can shift to the left or right. To re-align the belt, unplug the treadmill. Use the treadmill's included Allen wrench to turn the bolt or bolts on the back end of the NordicTrack machine. On two-bolt machines, turn the left bolt clockwise and the right bolt counterclockwise to adjust the belt's position until it's centered. On a one-bolt machine, turn the bolt clockwise or counterclockwise to move the belt left or right until it's centered.
Step 3
Clean the metal hand grips on the NordicTrack's handlebars if the treadmill's console isn't reporting your pulse. Use a soft, clean cloth and wipe down the metal contacts.
Step 4
Lubricate the NordicTrack treadmill if it stops running when you walk on it. NordicTrack advises consulting your model-specific owner's manual because lubrication requirements vary by device.
Step 5
Call NordicTrack's customer service hotline toll-free at 877-993-7999 if you still cannot get your treadmill to work properly. A customer service representative can walk you through additional troubleshooting steps or direct you to the nearest service center if your treadmill's hardware needs fixing.
