Many men get the same haircut every time they visit their hairstylist or barber. With so many trendy haircuts available to men, there is no reason to feel committed to the same style for a long period of time. Talk to your stylist about trying out a new haircut the next time you go in for a trim.
Buzz Cuts
A buzz cut means that the hair is cut with clippers instead of scissors. This type of hairstyle is maintenance free, aside from getting frequent trims. Some men prefer to have their hair cut very close to the skin, and others prefer it to be left a bit longer. This is accomplished by using an attachment on the clippers. A buzz cut is great for active men and for those who want to do nothing more than shampoo, towel dry and walk out the door.
Fades
A fade haircut is a cut in which the hair gradually fades from very short to a bit longer. Many times, the hair is cut nearly to the skin on the sides and the back of the head, and slowly increases in length until it reaches the maximum length at the top of the head. This type of cut works best on men with thicker hair, as thin hair may not hold its shape as well.
Medium With Bangs
A medium-length cut with bangs is a popular cut for men. The bangs should be swept to the side as they dry after showering. A bit of gel rubbed through the hair before blow-drying will keep it roughly in place, but still soft and pliable. This type of haircut looks fine if it's a bit rustled by the wind, and it is fairly low maintenance.
Long Layers
For men who like longer hair, long layers are a way to add volume and movement. This type of cut will make you look like you have thicker hair than you actually have. When the stylist cuts long layers, the shorter layers are at the top of the head, and the longer layers are at the back and sides of the head.
Shag Cut
The shag cut has been popular on women for years, but it is also a popular look for men. Your stylist will use a straight razor or thinning shears to cut layers of different lengths throughout your hair. Shag haircuts are lower maintenance than traditional long layers, as they're meant to look casual and somewhat messy. To avoid letting it get too unkempt-looking, though, you should have your shag haircut trimmed every month or so.
