Dr. Peter D'Adamo is the author of "Eat Right For Your Type." D'Adamo contends there is evidence that eating certain foods depending on your blood type can help you to stave off illnesses and lose weight. D'Adamo says that eating the right types of proteins can enhance your genetic natural rhythm of health.

Type A

D'Adamo says that people with blood type A have thickened blood. He says that eating meat can make the blood even thicker, and can cause type-As to die younger. Foods that are good for a type A to eat include vegetables, seafood, tofu, legumes, grains and fruit. For maximum weight loss, type As should eat foods cooked in or containing vegetable oil, foods made from soy, vegetables and pineapple. Foods that type As should avoid include meat and dairy products, lima beans, kidney beans and foods made with wheat.

Type B

People with type B blood can eat a variety of foods. Choose from meat, dairy, legumes, grains, fruits and vegetables. Type Bs should not eat chicken. Leafy greens, eggs, venison, licorice, liver and tea will help type Bs lose weight. Besides chicken, foods that type Bs should avoid include corn, lentils, peanuts, sesame seeds, buckwheat and foods containing wheat.

Type AB

Blood type ABs can enjoy most foods in moderation, according to D'Adamo. Pork, dairy, tofu, poultry, seafood, fruits, vegetables, legumes and grains are all beneficial to type ABs. If you are trying to lose weight, the best foods to eat are tofu, seafood, dairy products, kelp and pineapple. Foods that type AB people should avoid are red meat, kidney and lima beans, corn, seeds and buckwheat.

Type O

People who are type O are said to have the thinnest blood and the hardiest stomachs. For this reason, D'Adamo recommends that they eat high protein diets and limit their carbohydrates. Meat, fish, fruits and vegetables are the most beneficial foods for type Os. Foods that will help you lose weight are kelp, seafood, salt, liver, red meat and some leafy greens, such as kale, spinach and broccoli. Type Os should avoid wheat, corn, beans, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbage and mustard greens.
